Plese can anyone give me any other information apart from the stuff on the internet. Found some old photos but we do not know who of. Apart from on the back it says Geoffreys Central Street Leeds 1.Is this the same Geoffreys that were on Boar lane and if so where was Central Street and does anyone have any ideas when the business in Leeds started. Any information would be grateful.

http://goo.gl/maps/z7OAwAlthough now largely offices there was more light industry / mixed use premises. Boar Lane may have been their Ground floor shop with all else up off Park Place. Guessing here, try trade directories.

Hi,Did you find this article about Gratispool on the internet?http://www.photomemorabilia.co.uk/Gratispool.htmlIt does tell you that Geoffrey's business on Boar Lane was set up shortly after they married in Mar 1931.From my old A-Z Central Street LS1 was off St Pauls St.
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

I wonder where that was, as it is not named in a list of today's Leeds streets that I've looked at. If I read the document correctly that may have been where the fire was in the late 1940s that resulted in the end of work there.

There is an "Isle Lane" Hunslet indexed in my old A-Z ( circa 1970) as off Balm Walk. Exact location is not shown on the streetmap tho'.

My uncle Jack (John) Thackwray was the manager of "Geoffrey's" on Boar Lane from at least the late 50's up until it closed. I have many family portraits that were done in the basement studio. The shop was opposite Trinity church. Not sure if it became "Stone Dri" after it closed. Does anyone remember?

It ran from Balm Walk (runs off Stocks Hill) , passing the end of Tzar Street, The Isle Tavern, pic on Leodis, and then under the railway arches to Holbeck Lane. 1910 Tithe maps show this to be so.
