I hope it's going to be munched up by those big concrete crunching jibs that look like Transformer Dinosaurs. As I work about a quarter mile from it, hoping to get some good video for posterity.Just need to start work on the eyesore opposite this now. I fancy an arch shaped building spanning Wellington Street that overlooks the flyover. Wind funnel effects permitting.

Just checked your video link Jogon. Like diggers on Acid, ha. Ta for that.Revisions on a theme......If not a giant straddling arch maybe a giant overarching cog to represent industry, since Holbeck brick man is still just a concept. Or a giant Wellington Boot either side. Sorry!

The site has now been sold and demolition will start "in 3 to 4 weeks":http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -6509242No doubt the flattened site will stand empty for a long time before more generic, soulless identikit glass fronted offices are built there - just like you get in every other generic, soulless identikit town the length and breadth of the country?

I fear that you are probably correct Dave, i wonder what the chances are of it becoming a "temporary" car park a la Tetleys.

Even with the less than desirable access to the site.

Seems to me that lifetime of buildings is getting shorter and shorter.Bean Ings mill stood there 170years, Evening Post around 40.You can see this all over the place. Even Quarry hill flats lasted rather less than 50 years, but that's positively ancient compared to Leek Street flats. With all the fairly recent reconstruction in Leeds, I can readily imagine a period in 30-40 years time when all those structures need to be demolished but will stand long after their useful lifespans and the place will look like a dump.We just don't seem to be bold enough to make the long lasting statements of our forebears which would cost lots of money but require a longer term investment.
