Removal of Knostrop Cut

I don’t know if forum members are aware that 600m of the Knostrop Cut from Old Mill Lane Hunslet down to the next locks maybe lost to the River Aire flood alleviation plans. There’s a plan of the proposals at the link below.http://www.southleedslife.com/hunslet-r ... uV1HrTLfIU

They will have to keep it navigable for the boat traffic (a lot of the building materials for the station extension are to be brought up it) it just seems a shame to loose it. Thanks for the link to the painting its a nice contrast to what could be a country scene and the big industrial city in the background.

We've possibly covered this before, but don't all the plans for flood protection measures in Leeds appear to shift the problem (is an awful lot of water) for those further downstream to deal with?Let's hope that the bridge at Woodlesford is up to it!

After a quick look at the plans it looks like the idea is just to send the extra water down stream faster, some of it via the Aire and Calder canal. I do know the work to lower the banks at Woodlesford was completed last year so a lot of extra water will flood from the river into the nature reserves and that should save Castleford.
