Pubs closing NOW- in our time.

I wonder if we'll get a Bradford style big hole, except it'll have Meanwood Beck flowing in the bottom of it. Perhaps they'll come across something of archaeological interest to hold things up?

Already several large holes as I passed down George St today at the side of the outdoor market.Looks like they're already on with prep work identifying all the large mains electric services by excavating several deep pits,much to the chagrin of the taxi rank drivers alongside.Heaven knows how this will impact on weekend traffic down this already congested thoroughfare.Think if I had a car I would seriously avoid......... (apologies for taking a slight wrong turning off thread).

It is already a big hole,thats the problemTrinity i think proves that there is potential for more retail in Leeds.Phase 1 will try to attract the kind of retailers thats in Victoria Quarter (which is now owned by the same people who are developing Victoria Gate) so it wont be a matter of duplicating whats in Trinity,we wont have an overkill of the same shops.Trinity will also ensure that there is no huge shift of peoples shopping habits away from Briggate.Any construction causes disruption to traffic,its one of those things im afraid.But it will only be short term AND there will be a multio story carpark that will serve Victoriagate and provide better alternative parking for those who visit the Playhouse.

Puzzling times - I drove past the Merry Monk twice this lunchtime and it appeared to be open, or at least there were lights on, doorway open, and people inside.I suppose they just could have been people connected with disposing of it if it has been closed !!

My first post on here, hopefully not my last. as a man who has spent the best part of 60 years in and around Leeds pubs it makes me sad to see and hear about them closing.I now live in Gloucester and the Pub scene is the same, shut down / boarded up. I do return to Leeds now and then to see family (next week) One Pub that bucks the trend in Leeds is one i shall be in a week on Saturday night is the Woodman on Selby Road. you have to be there by 7. 30 pm or you do not get a seat. it is Karaoke night for the "Blue rinse and old Gits" and the joint is packed until midnight.it has been like that for years. Reminds me of the late 1950s when we used to have to be in the White Horse on York Road Friday nights and the Haddon Hall Kirkstall on a Saturday night by 7 pm. or it was standing room only. Happy days. Sad to pass my old local The Beech on Tong Road and the Crown next door all boarded up. Regards J.D.
