Just wondered if anywhere up near the Merrion centre was still free parking after 6pm? Alternatively is there anywhere near the Corn Exchange or Calls that anyone is aware of?

As far as I'm aware, any on street parking is now charged - I'm not sure how far out of the city centre you'd have to go from the Merrion Centre to find a free space, but the distance is likely to make it unattractive. Certainly the traders around The Calls / Corn Exchange have been very vocal about the charges so they clearly seem to apply down there too.South of the river used to be rammed at 6pm as the residents of all those riverside apartments circled looking for a space to park up for the night, meaning that by just after 6 most spaces had gone. I'm not sure if charges have made it that far out, but it's quite the walk from the Merrion Centre and makes the £5 charge at the Woodhouse Lane multistorey look almost attractive.(Although I've been told that the Merrion Centre multi storey car park is a nightmare to get out of following an event at the arena). The council website it unusually obtuse in finding out exactly where the charges apply (or don't, as the case may be) - it's almost like they don't want you to know....

I used to park up near Hyde Park corner but I've noticed a lot of streets have changed to residents permit parking over the past few years. Clearly the council sees parking fines as a great money spinner judging by the amount of parking wardens you see prowling the streets, not to mention bringing in fees for parking on Sunday etc. If its only short term parking, 1-2 hours then I used to park in Morrisons at the Merrion Centre which was free providing you'd bought something, and in many cases it was worth buying £3 worth of shopping and getting free parking rather than putting £3 into a parking meter. This was a few years back though, I dunno if Morrisons charge now.

That's a long way then because I'm only aware of parking on Calverley Street between the bottom of Portland Way and the mini roundabout and from memory its double yellows on both sides from the Headrow to Portland Way.

Apologies I noted this morning that the inside lane adjacent to the Town Hall is restricted parking (single yellow line) presumably evenings and Sundays

Sometimes, if I go to Leeds in car, I park in the Mabgate area, a it's quite cheap (about £2 for 4 hours, if I remember rightly), & within a reasonable walking (a literal 5 minutes) distance of the centre Bowman Street (etc...) used to be quite cheap too
