The Mill Green Goit seen in the Leodis link was a loop off the main beck to provide water to mills off the stretch from Brown Lane to the Water Lane/Holbeck Lane junction. Thanks jim, sadly Phil's initial link doesn't work, but I'll have another look through the thread. It seems like your mention of the Mill green Goit and Leodian's map could point to my theory about an old bridge and covered water course on what is now Brown Lane West being correct.

Hi Jogon I was thinking about the ones outside not in stores could it be that men used the pubs more and could be taken short on the way home.It was not the done thing for women to go round the pubs in my day .I must say sorry I have taken this thread off course.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

I've moved these posts to the existing thread identified by Leodian to keep them all together.suayUser Location: LeedsJoined on: 23-Apr-2014 13:43:57Posted: 21 posts# Posted on: 21-Jul-2014 16:46:18. Goto attachments Edit | Quote Took this pic this morning while on the public path just by the Asda headquarters. The 'Victoria' name on the bridge was just peeping through the trees. Regular SmileyThe nicely carved/moulded name is not that readily seen and I only spotted it for the first time on September 10 2013. I mentioned that (with a photo) in a post of mine that day in the very interesting 'Leeds river aire bridges' thread:- http://www.secretleeds.com/forum/Messag ... ID=2554Its good to see the large amount of trees/plants growing by parts of the River Aire in Leeds. I don't know though if that is due to lack of cutting or a deliberate policy by whoever looks after the river. Not to mention also the apparently increasing number of fish seen in parts. I wonder when the first otter will be seen (assuming at least one has not already been seen). Sorry for wandering off-topic. sujayUser Location: LeedsJoined on: 23-Apr-2014 13:43:57Posted: 21 posts# Posted on: 21-Jul-2014 18:31:15. Delete | Edit | Quote Leodian wrote: Hi sujay. I did check before I posted but only looked under 'Victoria Bridge' and 'river Aire', never thought of looking under (!) 'Leeds bridges', so sorry for starting a new thread unnecessarily. I agree re trees and vegetation, I like the natural look of the river, it's a little oasis in the middle of the city
