Strips torn out of the Yorkshire Evening News were what I got (not the YEP as the YEN was the evening paper of choice back in ye olden days).

In the late 60's a good few school choirs in Leeds were brought together for a Christmas Carol performance which was held in Leeds Town Hall. It was fantastic. Either YTV or the BBC filmed the concert and some of it was shown on television. There was also an LP made, "The Magnificent 700" named because 700 of us were singing. Not a secret really but a fantastic experience.A proper "Secret" was that some friends and I used to spy on a guy in his 30's who washed naked in front of his kitchen sink. Typical man.....did not pull the curtains to overlap in the middle so we were left with a good view.....     Caron, I envy you having the experience of singing at that performance in the Town Hall! I remember the LP well and used to borrow it each Christmas from the Central Music Library in the 1970s. I've tried without success to get hold of a copy as I would love to hear it again. My favourite track was "O Men From the Fields".My school had its annual Prize Night in the Town Hall and I sang in the choir and played in the orchestra many times there in the 1970s - it was certainly an experience to perform in that grand setting, even if it was only for parents!

Hey Caron.I forgot all about that Christmas thing at the town hall, me and my sister sang in it too. Although I couldn't sing really, I just mimed it and looked the part. If I remember there was a souvenir book with a list of the schools who took part in it, I seem to think it was a blue colour? I saw it at my mums a few years ago, not sure if she still has it or not. I didn't know it was on T.V, I just thought the B.B.C recorded it for radio?

Back in the early 80's, British Rail invited local schools to bring a choir down to Leeds City Station (as was) in the run up to Christmas to entertain and inspire the army of commuters passing through the station on their way to work.My school was one of those selected and my class was chosen and we even had a couple of rehearsals, then the whole thing was canceled due to industrial action by the teachers....never mind!

Thanks Steve, very much appreciated, but I have now managed to find a copy and have ordered it (from the same people, but direct from their website and slightly cheaper than on ebay). I'd forgotten the correct title, so finding this out helped my search enormously!I have a turntable as I still have loads of LPs!

Re The Magnificent 700... There was only a small portion of the concert shown on television and I seem to remember it was on the local BBC news one teatime. Sad to say, my parents couldn't afford to buy the LP. I recently looked for it myself on Amazon etc but never thought to try ebay. Now, can anyone out there who has the LP possibly make me a copy on to cd? I will gladly cover the costs.
