As per usual with the YEP, I don't remember saying any of that! But Neil's done a nice job on the articles & managed to get himself into some good places!

And as for...“The work of Secret Leeds members is second to none in terms of the level of research they manage to achieve.”Well, even if I didn't say it, I believe it!

...& as for his article today, I think the man deserves some kind of medal! 3,500 litres of waste per second? & I read that before breakfast.

near the end of the video it shows an old store room with a plan chest towards the left hand side. This, I bet contains many old construction, design and as fitted drawings of old refurbishment works at the station. It would be great to catalogue and scan these for posterity.

A work colleague of mine some years ago had a VERY large plan of Leeds City Station on loan to him from some local Railway or Model Railway Society? He was mad about model railways; I say was because he died some years ago. It was about 4 foot wide and many feet long, but I think it was just trackwork and surface layout. I didn’t get much time to study it. Have you though about approaching local Railway or Model Railway Societies?

Hi geoffb. As this was the Signal and Telegraph Dept's dedicated area all plans and documents to be found there would be devoted to those subjects - and would in any case have almost certainly been rehoused when that department moved its operations - I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope for the kind of finds you are hoping for. All the documents of the type you seek that I am aware of were in the sub-basement of Aire Street Offices, and were in the care of the Estates Department. Edit - I still have a 40' to 1" 1910 map of most of the station that was found in a skip behind Aire Street Offices if that would interest you.

Jim,I was interested in the drawings. Last year we were surveying an old gas site and in the basement was a plan chest just like the one in the video, inside, most things had been removed other than a linen drawing dating back to 1927 showing the elevations of the proposed new Gas Board offices on Gower Street. The draughtsmanship and art work were superb. This drawing is now framed and hangs in British Gas HQ.

With the heavy rain/thawing snow and resulting flooding in parts of Yorkshire yesterday and being in the centre of Leeds today (Dec 9 2011) I thought it might be interesting to see what the water flow was like where the River Aire runs in the Dark Arches area under the City Station. The flow was perhaps not as heavy as I expected (hoped!) but I still took some photos and this one shows a scene from the road/pedestrian bridge.
