I lived on Wolseley Street as a kid.I remember the lamp lighter with the pole but please, can somebody explain to me how the lamps were lit? I seem to remember there being a chain inside the lamp?Please put me outa my misery!!

Caron, sorry dunno and often wondered that.Nice old posters for mantles, probably woven asbestos to help lungs..

Basic explanation but I don't know the correct terminology.
