What I think is surprising is how little of the old stadium remains.there's part of a wall at the south-west corner(shown above), the grass banking you can see in the original pic and that's it.According to books I have it opened in 1934 and closed in march 1982. It was very narrow and there was only space for 5 tracks instead of the normal 6. I went to a meeting there once in the 70s - but gambling's never been my thing.

The stadium was also a venue for Rugby League. Hunslet R.L. (who called themselves 'New Hunslet' between 1973/74 and1978/9)used the ground from 1973/74 to 1979/80. the record attendance was 5,859 for a cup game v warrington in 1975 - but I dare say there have been higher attendances at Greyhound meetings.The pitch was apparently very narrow, Hunslet tried an innovation with goals that had only one (central) post as in american football, but they never caught on!The picture shows the programme from the first game at the Greyhound stadium, 25/08/1973
