Where is 96C and what's behind it?

I took this photo yesterday (December 5 2012) when the 96C number on a door caught my attention. As far as I can tell it has not been the subject of a previous What & Where? thread. The 96C does not seem to have any floor number meaning as there is a 21K very near. There is something of interest behind the 96C door.

Well I would have to say that looks like an internal door to me, the patina of the wood not looking right for an external door taking the worst mother nature can throw at it. The door is also old, so I would say it was somewhere like inside a large municipal building like the town hall, civic hall, library, museum or building of that type?

You are almost there Phill. I'll leave it a bit longer before I put another photo here in case anyone gets where the door is. Signing off for now before the forecast snow comes (the sky's looking a bit like it may snow but they are more like rain than snow clouds just now).

It is a door at the books lift just before an entry to the Business and Research section of the Leeds Central Reference Library. The photo with this post shows a wider view with the door and some of the stairway behind. I particularly like the wall tiling and the old looking push buttons for getting the lift to come (see the close-up of those buttons in my next post).

This photo is the close-up of the push buttons feature. I did try a button but nothing happened so I guess the lift may be only operatable by staff. There are probably not that many old style lifts in Leeds now. The only other one that I know of is the superb one that I understand is to be preserved at what remains of Tetley's Brewery when that site is fully redeveloped.
