Where is this object in central Leeds? I took the photo on July 21 2012 a few days after it first caught my attention, but I've no idea how long the object has been there. As to what it is I'm unsure, but I wonder if it is a lightning conductor or perhaps a piece of communication equipment.

I was thinking the same thing Leodian - a stylised lightening rod?

I thought it is time to state where the item is. It is high up between Evans Cycles and the NCP car park on New Station Street. The photo here (taken July 21 2012) shows a wider field-of-view looking to New Station Street from next to the station, with the item being just right of centre.Part of Mill Hill is out of view below where New Station Street crosses over it. The building on Mill Hill just left of centre looks interesting as there seems to be blocked up doors that (if so) presumably at one time connected with a building next to it, but that building has either been reduced in height or even demolished. The whole area of and around Mill Hill looks very interesting, but some is hard to readily photograph.

It looks very much like a 360 degree cctv camera to me.
