I wouldn'nt cycle down the paved path at the side of the cottages......it's a public footpath and you would be breaking the law.There is an overgrown bridleway parallel to the path that goes in the same direction

I would !I take the view that:-if it's a public footpath and only me there, I may pedal my bike.if it's a public footpath and others there, I would get off and walk my bike.If it's a bridleway, (overgrown at that! ) then it will be too churned up and muddy to ride a bike....... or walk.    

Please don't take this the wrong way: -There is a longstanding issue in the area, local residents are (legitimately) fed up of the green spaces and rights of way being misused.Horse riders galloping on recreation grounds, and trotting along public footpaths.Mountain bikers digging up woodland to create jumps and tracks, and tearing around on public footpaths.The local councillors are aware of the on going situation, and do act to address it.The path you aspire to break the law upon (regardless of the presence or otherwise of pedestrians) is terribly uneven, with large mossy gaps between the stones, and if it is even slightly damp, it can be perilous to merely walk upon.The bridle way although overgrown, is perfectly passable on foot, or by a competant mountainbiker.How do I know?I am a mountain biking resident of the area, and use the rights of way in a responsible and legal manner, and still I get berated by pedestrians.If you want to compound the issue that's down to you, but, if it all gets messy don't say you didn't know
