Where was this photo taken?

This photo (taken today, April 22 2012) shows a very nice carving with what seems to state 'PRÆMIUM V R UTI GLORIA' (I'm not sure about the UTI). Using a free online translation of Latin to English it came up with 'Reward V R to use fame'. The V R in the inscription will I think almost certainly stand for Victoria Regina. The building the object is found in is in LS1. I'm sure it will be easy, but you never know!Not readily seen in this much reduced image is what seems to be 'Corson' (likely a name) in small letters at about 8 o'clock in the belt-like feature. I wonder if Corson was the mason who made the object?

That looks nice (and unfamiliar!)Are we indoors or outdoors? Municipal or Private Buildings?

George Corson was the architect for at least three of Leeds many iconic buildings in LS1. These are the Grand Theatre, the Municipal Buildings which include the Central Library, and an extension to Leeds General Infirmary on Great George Street.I have never (knowingly) seen the masonry work depicted in Leodian's photograph but on the basis that he took it today I am going to go for the third of the options above.As far as I know the Grand is not open on Sunday - until the evening - and nor are the Municipal Buildings. In adddition to this reason there are many archways in the LGI and the coat of arms looks like one connected with learning. I realise that does not exclude the library but my 'brass' is on the LGI.

tangent------->Just reading a book's section on Corson. There's a bit on the School Board Offices of 1881.This bit might interest Phill:-"Solid rusticated basement of Burley Stone (containing storerooms and a passage under the road to the Town Hall)". Was this found on the Town Hall recce or is it blocked off now it's no longer Muni.

I think a closer translation would be along the lines of " Glory is the Reward of our Queen" or "Glory is our Queen's Reward" etc etc- Its impossible to give an exact translation as word order, tenses and so on are different. Certainly V R refers to Queen Victoria.

This photo (taken April 22 2012) shows part of the building where the photo query was taken and should be a huge clue as to the location. The features (small to large) in the building are a photographers dream.
