What is it, where is it, and what is the story behind it?

How well do you know Leeds?

Nothing stood on that spot where the church stands today Jogon, Ashfield house appears sometime after 1900http://www.parklaneproperties.com/professional ... id=7462The drive to the house was where the church stands, but there was no gatehouse. So where your date stone comes from I have no idea.

That's it. Bigger pic Good call jim.It has puzzled me since I took a walk that way 1985.Was there an earlier St Urbans Church from which this was taken. Might pop in + ask the Priest. Phill Funny you should mention Ashfield. I picked up a second hand copy of 'Pevsner Guide to Leeds'. Ashfield is described as "a tall 1860's Italianate house, possibly by Cuthbert Brodrick" [p250 Headingley]Might put this in other thread Brodrick's lesser known stuff.
