I happened to notice the subject of the photo when I was passing by today. I've passed where it is fairly often but I've never noticed the name before (I must stop looking down!). I am curious why some is in gold looking colour but the rest is not, as surely all would get roughly equal wear and tear. It would seem unlikely that the gold bits have been painted but not the rest. There is a further example of what is seen just to the side of this, but all the wording on that is not coloured and is just as worn looking.

This is pure guesswork as I have seen this before on several occasions but can't place it for certain and am going by the clues in the photo.Near the exit from the outside market to Kirkgate, there's a doorway to the Market Police office - is this photo taken outside there? If I'm correct I'll be amazed but I'm not holding my breath!

This one was not taken there Tasa but I shall have a look at some stage at where you suggest as there could be further examples.

Ah - so near there, then! When I'm in that area I'm usually on the run in my lunch hour to page-turn for my friend who occasionally gives organ recitals at the Parish Church and I'm sure I've seen this in passing somewhere on my dash!

Yes you are not too far away Tasa, just not Kirkgate. I saw it a couple of minutes or so after I came past Millgarth Police Station (not into that though, honest!).

http://g.co/maps/ejtey That's right Phill. The link does not show the wording well enough to read but I assume it was there in that June 2008 image. Arden News is still there on Eastgate at the junction with Harewood Street.I wonder if the lettering is less worn may be because it is more to the left of the entry door to Arden News and so does not get walked on as much, but even so it is odd that it gold coloured and so seems looked after.

Yes, that's on my route to the Parish Church - will definitely notice it when I'm next on the run in March! How do you do it Phill? Is there a square inch of Leeds you don't know?

Like you I recognised it Tasa, but couldn't quite place where exactly! I knew it was around the Headrow area somewhere, so I just judged the gradient of the path and got the right spot on Google street view! Just deduction work It just goes to show we take more notice of our surroundings than what we actually think.

Mind you Google maps can be confusing and wrong! Just looking at the area where the item in question is I notice that it is apparently in a seperate section of Kirkgate Market. Oh, and look at the name of the Central Bus Station (unless I really have got its name wrong!). This is the link for the Google map.
