The back of the old West Yorks Bus Station. Its number 9 Lady Lane. Henry Thorne & Co. Ltd, Cocoa manufacturerFrom Leodis "15th April 1924. Number 7 Lady Lane, premises of Turner Wilson, brokers and dealers. Next, junction with Edward Street then number 9 Henry Thorne & Co. Ltd, Cocoa manufacturer. Founded in 1832 the chocolate, toffee and ginger grinding. Signs on factory walls advertise Cocoa. A gap in the buildings can be seen with railings, this is St Johns Square, The view is looking towards St Peter Street."Here it is on Leodis
Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

Dry ice Cardi? Surely rancid chocolate from forty year old Easter eggs.

Such a familiar junction even today - the building nearest the top gave way in the 1930s for the West Yorkshire Bus Station, and the gradient in to Edward Street is instantly recognisable. I can still fondly remember the fabulous aroma of Thorne's toffee in the making. When I had my car broken into in Lady Lane I was told by the Police that it is the worst street in Leeds for break ins, and its true that heaps of shattered tinted glass can often be seen in the gutters, so please be warned folks.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.
