I've got a pic taken on Midhope Moor there where you can see Emley Moor mast behind the windfarm - quite a distance away if it is! Adjust the angle a bit and it could be that one... That's the one Ravey, It's Royd moor wind farm herehttp://goo.gl/maps/j4p73That's looking in the opposite direction back to Leeds. You need a street view super zoom to see where we are from there Glad I could help. Looking at a map, I reckon I was about 9 or 10 miles south-south-east of Emley Moor mast when I took that shot.

From my friends house in Rawdon the mast can be seen easily but it doesn't look as near to Leeds as it does in Phills pic. Is it still used?raveydavey, thanks. I shall have to read it a few times for "some" of it to sink in. So much for the saying, "The camera never lies" He didn't unfortunately as the IBA got nervous very quickly - I think there was an bomb scare before it opened, and, if you don't know the story, the previous mast collapsed under the weight of ice in 1968 and was replaced by a balloon while the new one was built. It's still the main TV and radio transmitter for southern Yorkshire which is why it's visible from everywhere - it has to reach everywhere.

simong, I didn't know the previous mast collapsed so I shall have a google to find out more. Thanks. jogon, can't open your pics but thanks for the explanation which I understand so thanks for that. My dad used to develop his own films in the attic. I just remember huge heavy round lenses and b/w pics he would colour himself. I was only very young, a shame I cannot remember more

This is the best article about the Emley Moor collapse (1969, not 1968, but during Coronation Street) http://tx.mb21.co.uk/emley/eyewitness/index.shtml

There are some clever folk around! If you have Sky and you know where to look, all the BBC local radio stations are available. For that matter you can get them all on the Internet now anyway.

The default BBC1 station on 101 is designated based on postcode to the best of my understanding, although if you watch BBC1 HD (143) there are no regional programmes, just a message telling you to tune to 101.More here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/info/channels_sky.shtml

I was miles away with the Old Brickworks, for which I lay the blame firmly at the feet of my non-existent understanding of depth perception. The actual distance between the transmitter on the left and the mill chimney is only around five or six hundred yards. On the photo it looks a lot more than that to me.I thought that some landmarks may have been missing because of the height the photograph was taken from. Nothing of the sort. Tyke Bhoy correctly stated that Morley Town Hall does not appear on Phill's photograph for the simple reason that it was not in shot anyway. It isn't, but neither is Tingley Mills - what Tyke Bhoy thinks is Britannia Mills. The former Britannia Mills building still stands next to the Asda in Morley. The mill chimney received the Fred Dibnah treatment years ago.The mill chimney in Phill's shot has Oak Mills as the identifying name at the top of it. This is on the right hand side of the A650 as you travel towards Bradford. One of three mills in that vicinity as follows, Topcliffe Mills, Oak Mills and Tingley Mills. What makes this irrefutable is the green water tank which is situated not far behind the Oak Mills chimney.Found this out this evening when we also learned Morley buses up Dewsbury Road are few and far between. Got a 202 to Tingley crossroads and walked home via Tingley Bar fisheries and the Stump Cross. Also, the houses at the forefront of Phill's red circle are the Rydals and Denshaws off Wide Lane, which is what Middleton Road morphs into.
