Where is this?

I took this photo on June 30 2012 after these nice figures caught my eye when I was wandering around the central area of Leeds. They do not seem to have been the subject of a previous What & Where? so where are they located? For those who know please let others have a guess first. PS. For a few minutes I thought I was not going to take a photo as the window was open and someone was having a cigarette!

I can tell you the Architect hides his name well I can't work out where you took your pic from, let me know in due course. Identical set round 'the other side'.

I think it's time to say where the figures are. They are to the top of the Duncan Street frontage of the Yorkshire Building Society building. There is a matching pair on the Briggate frontage according to Jogon.Regarding the architect of this building this SL thread may be of help:- http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... ighLight=1

On 1st sight I was convinced it was Goodbard House, corner King St/Infirm'y St.Where did you take the pic from? Couldn't work out your apparently high up camera angles.

What was the building before it was the building society, Leo? Certainly beautiful figures.I think the old buildings are fantastic in Leeds. Everyone seems to have been built with love, such fine works of art. Compared to modern buildings there is simply nothing to compare.

It is a zoomed in photo that I took from street level on the opposite side of Duncan Street. The photo with this post is a less zoomed on one from the same spot. There are loads of excellent carvings on buildings on Duncan Street that I seem to see new ones everytime I'm there.

Hi CaronThanks for your post which was added to SL while I was still preparing my post above so I did not know of your post before I sent mine in! As you say there are lovely carvings on many old buildings in Leeds. Some are obvious but many need to be looked for, which is fun at times. In the case of the figures I was helped because my eyes caught someone smoking with the small circular window open.

Hi Caron. I've found this 1924 photo in Leodis. http://tinyurl.com/bry3j5sInterestingly the Schweppes name is still there in the 1960's Leodis photo found by uncle mick. Thanks to uncle mick for that Leodis photo.
