Hey munki those are then tunnels. did you shuffle down em? You come out under that big grate and can watch folk walking overhead & no we didn;t spy on the ladies either! We were on official business & i came out FILTHY

And as a special treat... The entrance to the tunnel that used to connect the Town Hall to the CID offices in the Municipal Buildings (now the library)? It certainly points in the right direction... Opinions differ.

Phill - how were the cells originally lit, as there are no windows? I can't imagine Victorian prisoners being trusted with candles, let alone gas.

I think munki will be the man to ask here Si.. I should imagine the guards had lamps with candles but there wasn't prisoners rights in those days! I bet they were in the dark! Maybe if we had these conditions & c.p we wouldn't have all these chavy scum wondering about waving guns about mate!
