HiHas anyone seen that monk who walks around Leeds / Yorkshire etc? I saw hiom walking by my flat near Horsforth a couple of years ago but I havent seen him for a while. I think sometimes he is wearing like a cassock and sandals and I might have even seen him in bare feet. Does anyone know anything about him? Is he even a real monk? Where does he come from etc?

Hi,Yes I remember the Monk, I lived in Horsforth and Calverley, before upping sticks about 10 years ago, to live down under in Perth Western Australia. He was always around what ever the weather, winter, spring and summer and I always wondered who he was and where he came from, he always acknowledged me when ever I drove past him and he always smiling. MAKES YOU THINKAnyway, we were back visiting family, who live in Pudsey and Woodhall this last Christmas 2007 and were in and around Calverley/Rodley and there he was still walking around in the brown habit and sandels!!! Still striding out and going where ever he goes.I was with my wife (from Lincolnshire - cant help that!!!) and proceeded to explain to her about the Monk.Certainly brought it all back to me about living around that area.Great Forum, I'am always into at the end of a Friday and the working week

Hasn't the Merry Monk been mentioned on here before, somewhere? I used to see him often on Harrogate Road near the airport, but I haven't spotted him for a couple of years or so.PS Didn't the Wise Owl pub up Cookridge used to be called The Merry Monk?

That's him. I've seen him but not recently and when I did see him I would guess it was in the Bradford and not Leeds area.
