Having spent all day yesterday reading all the articles on this website, I spent a few hours on Leodis.........to my suprise I was unable to gather any photographic evidence of the Queens Hall, infact very little from any source, having played such an important part in the development of our fine city, I find it deplorable that the city fathers have ommited to record this fine structure.Not exactly the best researcher, but am I correct with my opinion, that there is little evidence recorded, do you have any photographs?????

It was a former tramshed and that's what it looked like inside. I went to an Ideal Homes Exhibtion there - it was ok but nothing like the one in London, I also went to a Faces concert there in 1973. The accoustics were apalling. I went to another couple of events too.Basically it was not up to purpose. Leeds needs a decent venue for pop concerts etc. Like the GMEX, the Bridgewater and the Sheffield arena. The big bands in the sixties used to appear at the ABC or the Odeon which were vast auditoria. Something of at least that size is needed IMO.

Cheers Trojan, aware of its history, remember using it regular, concerts and fairs, but as you grow older the mind plays tricks, would love to see if my recolections were correct

I remember the Xmas fairs in the QH, I also went to see Rod and The Faces, I also went to a Roxy Music all-nighter there, also on the bill were Be-Bop Deluxe, Leo Sayer, Vinegar Joe (Robert Palmer and Elkie Brookes) and others. I also saw The Clash there with Siouxsie and the Banshees, I went to a couple of John Keenans Futuramas too. I'm quite sure the Beatles played an early gig there too around 1963.Aahhh The fond memories.

When did it stop being a music venue? I remember going to some car auctions there, which I think must have been after that. Maybe the two uses co-existed.

I guess it was a music venue right up to the end of it's life. I think that was the only way they could make money out of it. A lot of rock bands played there in the 80's, Saxon, Motorhead (part of their gig can be heard on 'No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith'), Ozzy Osbourne, Thin Lizzy, Def Leppard ... ... ...

i have some of the best memories of my life dating back to the queens hall music erami dad used to be good friends with one of the top promoters and he used to get me and my mate into concerts and we used to go backstage i met phil lynott and ozzy osbourne to name a few!! i got given a life size cardboard cut out signed by phil lynott not long before he died!i remember one gig we went to(i think it was futurerama) there were punks sniffing glue openly in the toilets and i got lost from my mate talk about scary i was only 12 wondering around with punk rockers laid all over the floor blind drunk scary yes but swap it? not a chancewe also got to see some of the other bands of the eightes heres a few off the top of my headPAUL YOUNGUB40HAWARD JONESTHE DAMMNEDUK SUBSACDCTHE POLICEyep good old days they were.

My main recollection other than those mentioned, were the flea markets, and it was often used by the traveling fair.
