A minor earthquake at Rothwell on January 28 2024.

The British Geological Survey website reports there was a 1.8 magnitude earthquake at Rothwell on January 28 2024 at about 02:24 GMT. Though very minor in World events it was enough to note in UK events. Its details in the BGS earthquakes site is ‘Date 28/01/2024. Origin Time: 02:24:16.6 UTC. Location: 53.742 -1.463. Depth: 8 km. Magnitude: 1.8. Locality: Rothwell, W Yorkshire’. At 8km depth it should be much too deep to be mining subsidence related. It does however seem not to have been felt (at 1.8 it probably would not though be felt by anyone sleeping then!).
