Help with a photo said to show the City Centre of Leeds.

Post by Leodian »

The Yorkshire Evening Post website currently has a feature of 12 photos of places to visit in Leeds. One of them is labelled 'City Centre' but for the life of me I cannot figure out the view so I have attached the photo. I probably should be embarrassed not to be able to identify the location but I would be grateful if it could please be given. If the domed building is the Town Hall it is a very odd view that I don't recognise and the surrounding area does not seem to fit.

You don't recognise it because it isn't Leeds. We don't have trams.

Thanks all for your help :). I never really thought that the photo was of Leeds but who would have thought that the YEP would confuse a photo of Nottingham with one of Leeds as the YEP is usually so very reliable! ;)

This is exactly why I stopped buying the YEP many
years ago.
When it appeared on the news stand at the same time as the Yorkshire Post reporting standards flew out of the window.,never to be seen again.
I read it on line mainly for the hatches, matches and despatches and cringe at some of the reporting.

It reminds me of the blurb issued by some agency to promote Birmingham (and presumably paid for by them) which showed a picture of Birmingham Alabama

I can see why someone might just think it is Leeds because it does have the look of hovering somewhere above Majestic/Majestyk or the Old PO looking across City Square down Boar Lane towards Trinity Church (the spire towards the top left). The building down the left also has the look of the building on the corner of Park Row Boar Lane ( https://goo.gl/maps/zN9DUo5QcUEEdCGm9 ). However beyond what is there that shouldn't be (e.g. trams) the big misses are the Queens, Wellington Street in front , the Black Prince, the Dome on the Observatory (top of Bishopgate Street) and the back entrance to the station off Aire Street.
