Indian restaurants

Post by Huddsgolfer »

I've spent the last several weeks trying to remember the name of the Indian Restaurant upstairs at the back of the Merrion Centre near the Bowling Alley. It was around in the mid to late 80's, probably earlier. Can anyone help please. Much appreciated.

It might have changed its name to that at some point but that wasn’t it. I’ve a feeling it began with an S or a T

I only remember a Greek restaurant in that location in the 1980s went a few times with friends from work, the waiters would dance round to Zorba the Greek music, anyone else go there?

Yep a works social do, possibly after a bowling alley visit, in the mid 90s. Plate smashing too.

The Greek Restaurant was Scorpio’s. There at the same time as the Indian I’m trying to think of.

Was it the Taj Mahal? The 1972 phone book has one listed at 6 Merrion Street.

Like I mentioned in a previous post the Ashoka was on Merrion Way but its last appearance in the phone books was 1982

This photo from 2011 has it as either Maliks or Zaidans: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jamesw-bell/5648832151/. Neither appears in the 1984 phone book but it might have been empty for a while.
