California earthquake detected near Leeds.

Post by Leodian »

A major earthquake of about magnitude 7.1 struck in California in the early hours of July 6 2019 (July 5 2019 in California time). The event was recorded at the British Geological Survey earthquake monitoring stations and for interest (hopefully! :)) I have reproduced below the very long period seismograph of the Haverah Park record of the event from up to a short while back. The Haverah Park site is near Beckwithshaw, just a little north of Leeds. Though the event happened very far away it was severe enough to be recorded, but was not felt and had no known effect locally.
