With apologies to Duncan I had hoped by pointing it out to avoid unnecessary contact/discussion. All I know is it is known to Duncan and is s a result of his application of a site software upgrade that had the undesired side effects, It is not a major detriment to the site and as far as I know affects none of the functionality just making the appearance weird in places.

I have been on on this site for quiet a long time. There is still no search facility and lots of "photos" in earlier posts are not available . A simply question is it going to be sorted out "Yes or No"

ELLIPSIS was a new word to me so I've now learnt something when looking it up in a dictionary. I've also long been unknowingly using ellipses when I omit words from quotations and replace them by the three dots of an ellipsis. I must have picked that up from somewhere!

Hi buffaloskinner

.
ELLIPSIS is one of the capitalized punctuation words that currently appear instead of their punctuation marks (eg, COLON rather than : ). As ellipsis is capitalised it is very obvious, though it seems that you have not spotted it on at least the Board Index page.
I find the use of the punctuation words amusing and hope to see such as PILCROW, INTERROBANG and OCTOTHORPE, which are some punctuation words that I came across when looking up what an ellipsis is.
PS. If anyone is interested a pilcrow is ¶, interrobang is ‽ (mixture of a question mark and an exclamation mark) and octothorpe is #.

I'd always just called that the hash sign. It is used to represent numbers and somewaht confusingly the Americans call it a Pound sign
