SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

Bit of an odd one, this.
Slack's the Baker on Crossgates road [now long gone] used to sell bun loaf.Yellow in colour and full of raisins and sultanas but NO glasse cherries or cinnamon. I'm desperately trying to find a recipe for it but can't.
Can anybody help? - and, by the way, it is not the same as Tea Loaf.

I'm taking it it is similar, but not the same as Barmbrack that you have mentioned in another thread. Other searches suggested it was pretty much hot cross bun made as a loaf rather than a bun.

Was the top of the bun sticky like it had been coated ? There was a small bakers in Greenmount St. in the late 1950s that made that sort and as at that time my brother who's wife had just got twin girls, then took a night job at W.H. Smiths as well as his work through the day. he used to finish at 5 am. and call in the bakery for a bun to have for an early snack. he had gone in for months every day about 5.30 am. and this morning he was waiting a few minutes in the shop when one of the workers popped his head round, saw my brother and shouted back inside the bakery "Its all right, its only Longbun" Don't think he went in ever again...
They were delicious but I dont ' see them in the shops anymore.

Was it a "Sally Lunn" or is that something different?

Thanks for the answers. No, its not barmbrack and its not Sally Lunn either. The Hot X bun idea is the closest but, while it was quite yeasty, it wasn't just quite the same thing - it was actually loaf shape and, yes, j.c.d, the top was sticky / glazed but only lightly.
Ah well, the search continues. If nothing else, its an excuse to each lots of cake.

Eee Lad it does sound a lot like my brothers (Long Bun) early breakfast and he always called in to his local bakers about the same time as your post. coincidence or what !!!!!

If you google "bun loaf", there are pics and recipes to be found. Is it any of these?

I did google Bun Loaf and didn't get any returns - not decent ones anyway.
I've just checked my search history and discovered that I'd searched for Bum Loaf.
Having looked at a few it seems that it is a Chelsea Bun Loaf.

Hi liits . That made me titter . Your original search results may not have been to do with Hot X buns but would have been Hot X-rated sites!

Mistyping is so easy to do and easily not spotted. Quite some while back now I was posting in a thread about the name Percy Robinson, the architect whose name is carved on at least one building on Duncan Street. I typed Pervy Robinson (the v is next to the c on the keyboard) but luckily I spotted it before sending. Phew, that would have been funny but
