The 'new' frontage of premises on Vicar Lane.
Work has been going on for a while now on the frontages of some premises on Vicar Lane and King Edward Street. The nice clean look of the fronts on Vicar Lane caught my eye today (April 30 2015) so I took this photo. It had taken me a few moments to realise that it is a giant fabric screen and not real!
. It's a shame that the bit immediately above the black original part does not match the rest of the screen above. The illusion created by the screen is though quite good if only a casual look is done. King Edward Street is just off the left of the photo and the Vicar Lane entrance to Victoria Quarter is just off the right.

How very clever and convincing this is - very pleasing to see. No doubt most will remember an even more remarkable thing of this kind - the entire front of the Civic Theatre was covered with something similar during its lengthy conversion to the new City Museum.

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Is that similar "brickwork" patterned one still in place on the site of the old ABC cinema?

How very different this building is from the late 1980's. halfords on the left hand corner Halifax b.s centre.Doing a referb on the Halifax we kept finding spanners under floors that lead us to think that at sometime it must have been part of halfords .Anyway the site manager said " can you go to top floor and refix the architraves removed by the electricians" only to find dolphin hotel written on the back of the architraves.

The first is a front view from the top of Vicar Lane, by the Inner Ring Road. The second is a rear view from the Templar Street car park. The third is another rear view that shows why it is best to check photos when they are taken as I luckily spotted this one and found that I had somehow moved the photo setting dial on my camera (
