It seems that Scammers are getting more devious finding ways to get their hand on our money.
Having a drink in South Leeds Club recently (about the only decent drinking place left in Beeston) my pal Gary showed me a letter sent to his house and an identical letter sent to a property he owns in Cross Flatts. They both said he had won 5000 euros on the Spanish Lottery "El Gordo" as I have lived in Spain he wanted me to see this. this Lottery is drawn around Christmas time and is the largest in Spain. the heading on the notepaper looked genuine and it was postmarked from Madrid. they asked for his bank details etc. as Gary had never even heard of this lottery he naturally discounted the whole thing.
When I lived on the Costa Brava we used to come home for two months in the summer. one year we advertised for a flat in Cheltenham to rent and among the replies on line were two different offers from around the area with the identical photo's of a flat. one story was he was a Rev. going away to Africa for two months and the other was someone who was travelling to Africa to see sick family. both wanted a large deposit sending to Western Union.
These were quite obvious scams but if you care to go into "Gumtree scammers " you would be amazed at the strokes that are pulled.
E Bay can be just as dangerous where sellers advertise goods that just don't exist, get the money and are gone.
I guess the golden rule is NEVER give out your bank details to anyone on line.

Would be interested to hear others experiences, if any.

Pay by Paypal or if over £100 by Credit Card.

Its guaranteed so when goods not received, or you wish to return goods you are dissatisfied with you will get a refund. Ive had refunds in both circumstances no problem. Slightly different set of rules for claiming in both cases but using those methods you should be ok.

Why would you want to pay an obvious scam in any of your suggestions :?:

Even payment by Paypal on Ebay or any other site does not cover all items bought, many goods are exempt from a refund if not received or useless.

I wouldnt pay for an obvious scam using any method.

I have had refunds from Paypal and Credit Card, for goods not received or not as described, when bought both on and off ebay.
