The Lion King above the McNoodle King!

I took these photos on March 10 2015 showing the stone lion high above the McNoodle King at the junction of New Market Street and Kirkgate. The photo of the lion is a zoomed-in one.
There are several stone lions in Leeds but this one may not be that well known as it is not readily spotted being so high up. I wonder how old this lion is?

Hi buffaloskinner.
I did do a search for "lion" and got 10 pages of results but I did not find that through any of them, so I apologise for having inadvertently brought up an old topic. I hope my thread is still though of interest to Secret Leeds viewers but I will understand if the mods decide to delete it.

Many years ago my mother worked Saturdays in a dress shop called Chic Modes which was just up Kirkgate on the left side. they had a stock room near the top under the lion but I cant remember where the entrance to the bulding was. it must have been in either Kirkgate, Vicar Lane or the street higher up Kirkgate on the left.

Thanks hyperion for that fascinating photo.
I wonder when it was taken, though there is little (if any) external structural change since then. I cannot make it out so I wonder what it is that looks like it might be a lion in the window at the corner of New Market street and Kirkgate. I see there was a Ladies Fitting Room. The "Good Boots" made me smile as it reminded me of the "Good Food" sign that is often seen today outside food shops and cafes so I hope they don't otherwise serve "Bad Food"

.

Hiya leo ,
Sorry there is'nt a date on the postcard, but the public benefit boot company was a nationwide company, and there's a lot of information on the web.ps I think it is a lion in the window.
