Made in Leeds TV channel

Oh dear, started to watch the new Leeds centric "Made in Leeds" TV channel on freeview channel 8 last night and was immediately underimpressed with just about everything the launch program was claiming the channel would be.

Giving it another chance i tuned in again this morning to the "Wake up Leeds" program only to find that there was either no signal (all other channels working fine) or that there was a terribly broken picture which when it finally sorted itself out (after an hour) was simply showing a repeat of the previous evenings launch program.

Ok i thought, teething problems,it cant be easy after all. So i thought i would look at the schedule for later in the day only to find that it was mainly made up from programs that were based in other parts of the UK ,so were not a Made in Leeds production and had nothing to do with Leeds at all.

The programs that appeared to be made by Made in Leeds are repeated about 4 times during the day.

Now there is a good chance that things will improve but given the fact that the first days broadcast was going to be crucial to attracting and retaining viewers and as a consequence advertisers and the fees they pay to the channel one would have thought they would have made a better fist of it.

I was in Toronto about 4 years ago and they had 3 or 4 Toronto based channels, all of which were far far superior to Made in Leeds.

I hope they do up their game,if not, no one will watch and the chance to have our own cities channel will go under.

So it was not just me then that had a mainly broken or even no signal when I 'saw' some of it this morning!

In a bit I did manage to see there was a woman (presumably she has something to do with made in Leeds) saying that the channel would be good for a self-governing Yorkshire and a man wanting business support (which to me will imply control over content).

That was the repeated launch program from last night.

On another note a Yorkshire Regional assembly would not be a good idea in my opinion.

A Leeds City region assembly made up of those who are already elected (and well paid for being so) to the councils within the city region and the MP's within that region could convene say twice a month.

This would mean more value for money fro the politicians we already have and not have to pay for another tier of politicians.

It cant be beyond the wit of man to make what we already have work for the region.

Be careful of what you wish for CNOSNI. You aren't a big fan of WYPTE/METRO but that's predominantly a selection of politicians from the Leeds City Region(W YORKSHIRE) meeting a couple of times a month ;)

Point taken on Metro, but to be fair, they can only do so much with what they have monetary wise.

Perhaps a separate thread would be appropriate.

As for Made in Leeds teh weather forecast at 19:00 was the same as this morning, a computer graphic voiced over presentation telling us what the weather would be like "This morning".

The sport/Leeds United program with Derm Tanner that followed the weather "history" (i say history as it had already gone) was the sort of thing that i was expecting.

I was thinking there would be huge production numbers but at least there should be a core high percentage of programming devoted to Leeds and teh environs. I hope things pick up.

I wish anyone well in a new venture but I can't see it lasting, at least without a substantial "non-Leeds" amount of content. There's only so much about Leeds you can put out. Does anyone watch Family Guy and recall the Public Access TV station that our hero has been on a couple of times? I imagine Leeds TV to be like that!

There is only so much Leeds output you can do but as it is at the moment teh channel is putting out less than minimal.

from what i can see on the odd occasion i have looked at the schedule,it is mainly showing stuff recorded elsewhere as it had loads of stuff on about welsh places the other night.I think they need to get recording local stuff sharpish
Anyone know where the studio is/i assumed it would be in the University like Nottingham's local station but haven't seen any reference to how to contact them
