I mentioned on the Famous Sons of Leeds thread that this chef was from Leeds.When you read anything about him the media always say he came from a 'bleak council estate' in Leeds.But which one?

He went to Fir Tree Primary school on the Ring Road at Moortown, so he possibly lived on the council estate next to it.Incidentally, he seems to have forgotten his roots. At http://www.radiotimes.com/content/featu ... e-white/he states: 'I wish you luck with your career with the Radio Times but sometimes northerners should stay in the north.'

Ah right, thank you. Have journalists ever heard of a 'pleasant' or a 'tidy' council estate do you think? Nope, they are always 'bleak'. In the RT interview, I took that comment to include himself as well as the interviewer. But it did come across as a put down. Which is what he does for a living.

Yeah he did live on the Fir Trees. Approach I think it was, my friends dad went to school with him. I'll have to see if he can tell me any stories about Marco at school.....!

I believe he went to secondary school at Allerton Grange.

I was in his class at Fir Tree School (he was a bit of a misfit (or character) and I remember the headmaster telling him, in front of many other kids "Marco, you'll never make anything of yourself!", we then both went to Allerton High but in different classes where I lost contact until I met him in his Hyde Park restaurant in London. But all the succesful people also had teachers.Hmmmmm....
