I was in the centre of Leeds today (September 9 2014) for a very quick visit and had not brought my camera as I did not expect to take any photos. I did however have my mobile phone (I finally got one some while back now). On passing down Vicar Lane on a bus I noticed that there seemed to be work going on at the Edward Street car park off Lady Lane so I went to have a quick look. There was no demolition work yet but the site had what would be some preliminary work going on. With the camera on my mobile phone I took 2 quick photos and have reproduced one here (the second will be in my next post). I wonder if what may be behind the bricked-in arch may be revealed at some stage? Similar initial work has also started at the old West Yorkshire (Red) bus station parking area off Lady Lane.Apart from a very few trial photos (soon deleted) I have never taken any photos with my mobile camera with the intention to keep. My lack of how to use the camera therefore became evident when having thought I had taken 2 photos I found I had taken 12 of one and 10 of the other! I think I must have held the 'shutter' too long, though I thought I had just touched it! They were all stills, with virtually no difference between each of the 12 and each of the 10. I was surprised that each photo was quite clear. I even worked out how to download the photos onto my computer (all now deleted, except for the 2 here) but working out how to completely delete them all from my phone took some doing! (I think I managed it, including the automatically saved ones in the 'cloud'). Edit added October 2 2014. Passing by the site on September 30 2014 I noticed that the now in-use car park is called Lady Lane car park, not Edward Street car park. As far as I was aware it was called Edward Street car park before the recent work but that seems to be the name of the larger car park behind the fence.

This is the other photo that I took at the Edward Street car park today (September 9 2014). The long disused British Road Services building on Lady Lane is also in view.

Yes the quality pleased me, particularly that the photos have been reduced quite a lot. My normal camera is a compact digital camera that, through by no means top quality, does give me good results though I gave up trying to figure out the various settings a long while back and just keep it on what seems to be an automatic setting. There are settings for the mobile phone camera but I just 'press' its shutter and hope! Sometimes I have unknowingly caught a settings dial on that and get poor quality results which is annoying when I realise and find that photos I have taken are poor. Thanks cnosni for the link. In the details brought up it seems that much of the area is only going to be for car parking. I hope parking fees are not excessive as to put people off coming to shop.Edit added September 17 2014. Oops, I've just noticed that some of the sentences in my post are in the wrong order and thus confusing . Part of my post above should read:- "My normal camera is a compact digital camera that, through by no means top quality, does give me good results though I gave up trying to figure out the various settings a long while back and just keep it on what seems to be an automatic setting. Sometimes I have unknowingly caught a settings dial on that and get poor quality results which is annoying when I realise and find that photos I have taken are poor. In the details brought up it seems that much of the area is only going to be for car parking. I hope parking fees are not excessive as to put people off coming to shop.     The area is earmarked for the next phase of VG, however, Hammerson the developer and who now own the land, are reluctant to commit to starting this next phase until phase 1 is complete and occupied. So Hammerson, in reaction to the lost car parking on George Street in phase 1, are knocking down MOST of the buildings on phase 2 and creating a car park.I just hope it will be developed and not left to fester as it has for the last couple of decades.BTW Leo, are you coming to the Adelphi, we could do with a photographer ?

Passing by Edward Street car park today I noticed that there is now boarding running all the way just in front of the 'wall' at the rear. The boarding is presumably bordering that area of the temporary car park, which now also has some hard surface on it. The 'arch' will likely therefore not be readily seen for a long time, possibly never if the narrow boarded-off bit between the wall and the park gets permanently filled in.
