Unless I have missed some news I wonder if there is a reason for the delay in getting the new Secret Leeds website active, as it seems to be taking longer than I had expected. This is not a criticism, just a query on my part.

The f.b group was really only set up to try get this main site back up running when it crashed for months a couple of years ago. It was never really intended to run alongside, compliment, or compete with the main S.L forum. It just seemed to evolve to what it is today once the main site was back online.. As already said it's much busier than this forum due to it's nature. It encourages new people to post who might otherwise feel they don't know enough, or are expert enough to post here. The 'lurkers' I've heard them describe themselves when they have followed a forum for ages without ever posting on it. There are a few basic guidelines and rules, any kind of trouble is stopped immediately, the ability to report posts is there, and also block any users you may not want to interact with. That said there has not been one instance of bickering or arguing in well over 2 years since the group started. I do agree that the Secret Leeds forum needs a new look, some fresh ideas, and given a makeover to kick start it back to life these days.

Personally I love SL exactly as it is, with many knowledgeable and well informed members, and always some most interesting topics to follow - especially for old gimmers like me who loved "my old Leeds" as it was and are not impressed with the zany modern place now, although I realise that I'm in the minority as far as the general citizen base are concerned. I yearn for the old theatres, cinemas and stores and particularly for the absorbing and fascinating transport systems, road and rail, that I grew up with.I've been retired for thirteen years now and I'm still so busy all day and every day that I have no spare time to even dabble briefly in FB, popular though it is - I joined once for about a week at the suggestion of other transport folks but soon abandoned it as it simply "wasn't for me." I suppose there's a bit of "rose tinted glasses" in my viewpoint and admittedly there were some awful features fifty plus years ago - uncurable illnesses, real undeserved poverty etc etc, so I suppose we can't have it all ways. There, I've rambled on a bit - I meant to say that SL will do for me just as it is and many thanks to all the leading members who take care of it day to day.

I agree with Blakey about Farcebook. Although I do have a FB account I don't use it as I'm not interested in sport or the various doings of this weeks "celeb".The SL2 site is good but but it lacks the simplicity and order of threads. Another one that I look at occasionally is Leeds Back in the Day. Not because it is of much interest - although it has turned up one or two gems, but for the comedy value. Many of the users being under the impression that Leeds was invented in 1995.

I've got the time out ''server error'' about 6 times the last week or so on S.L. It's also slow to load, and post comments at times. It looks like it's started to wobble a bit again.

I won't join Facebook for a few reasonss -- chief amongst them being I won't deal with any company where the founder publicly call the users of the site by a derogatory term meaning idiots. I agree that the thng which makes this site is the quality of the content and that the contributors care about "our city". It would be nice if there were more activity but I think it's better to have a little less and have good information and thoughtful comentary rather than a lot of nothing much.
