A mention of a Leeds Citizen website in another thread reminded me of the Leeds Weekly Citizen newspaper that was issued free as far as I recall. On trying to find some information I found that it apparently ceased publication as long back as December 1987.This is a link to a listing in the Leeds City Council website of local newspapers held at the Local and Family History Library (presumably that at the Central Reference Library near the Town Hall)
http://www.leeds.gov.uk/docs/Newspapers.pdf The list has information on when local newspapers first came out and when they ceased to be published, so it may be of interest.

The Leeds Weekly Citizen was the newspaper of the Leeds Labour Party - but could be ordered by anyone - either directly or through a newsagent. It contained items mainly of interest to members of Leeds Labour Party (and their opponents as they often revealed things their opponents wanted to know)!

I had clearly forgotten that it was a political paper.
