I've had an invitation from a gallery in Harrogate to see an exhibition of paintings by Joash Woodrow. He is certainly interesting in himself: born in Leeds, he did his national service in Egypt 1945-48 and then went to the Royal College of Art to study drawing and painting. After graduating he returned to Chapel Allerton and was found to have amassed a body of work of almost 800 paintings and 4500 drawings in 2000. The current exhibition is of interest to Secret Leeds as it's of the area, and more specifically allotments, among other things. There is a selection online here: http://108fineart.com/joash-allotments-gallery/. They're of a naive style but I'm guessing that a few people might recognise some of the subjects.
