Otley "Loco" Hedge

Message for 'Arry 'Awk, if you're watching...The topiary hedge cut in the shape of a locomotive on Manor Street, Otley, has sadly been cut down. Just stumps remain.As far as I know, the Crow Lane version is still in steam.

It was only a few weeks ago that I was looking at that loco hedge and it seemed to be being kept in good condition - why did they chop it down?With Dunnies in danger as well, that little corner of Otley is really changing I have yet to see the one on Crow Lane (not even certain where that is, but Google will help), but will make sure I visit this one before it's chopped down!

I'm going to try to find out why it's been cut down. Will keep you posted.It looks like the 60s eyesore behind Dunnies will soon be demolished, making this corner different still. It's in a really sorry state these days. I would assume it's prime development land, especially as there are disused tennis courts behind it.To get to the Crow Lane loco, coming from Leeds, turn right at the end of Gay Lane, immediately after the petrol station, and head down the cobbles. Turn first left (this is Crow Lane), and continue along following the lane to the right. About thirty yards or so after the bend, the loco can be seen on the left.
