This is one of the recently new SL banner photos. The location I understand is Otley. My query is why is the 'Rescue' boat placed where it seemingly cannot be quickly put into use when any time saved could be important? Is it always kept there when not in use?

I never noticed it was a boat before, just assumed it was a part of a lock or something. Anyway back to the boat, I actually think it needs more rescuing than it can give. I'd say it had broken it's moorings and was heading over the weir in a short while.

I'd agree with phill - it's safe to say the rescue boat is in need of rescuing itself. In the days of boating on the Wharfe at Otley (rowing boats, or the motor boat cruises under the bridge and upstream), there was a rudimentary boom across the river to stop any thrill seekers getting too close too the weir.

Pretty easy location to find on street viewhttp://goo.gl/maps/npqJZNo sign of the boat, but my guess is you might find it somewhere upstream towards the Yorkshire Dales!

That painting makes it look like there is a volcano beyond, so take care when walking on the Chevin and area!
