Hey all,Thanks to everyone who entered the photo competition, I have updated the site with the winning pictures, and here is a complete list of winners and runners up....Cnosni - city panoramaBrunel - Oakwood panoramaLS1 - Town Hall Clock closeupPhill D - selection of imagesRavey Davey - Corn Exchange detailing, sunset skyline, Roundhay ParkWeenie - river scene at OtleyBuffaloSkinner - bluebells in Middleton WoodsRunners up - RCam, Tilly, Marcus, Book (sorry guys, it's not that the photos weren't great, but rather due to problems with size/resolution and cropping them to suitable dimensions. If you can supply those images in higher resolution we might well be able to include them. Tilly - your Armley Mills one has been frustrating me all morning, just can't get it to look right in a 960x200 pixel box, would have loved to use it!)Cheers everybody, anyone who didn't collect their prize at the do on Friday please drop me an email... Your SecretLeeds keyring/mirror/fridge magnet (delete as appropriate) awaits! I'll even throw in an SL pin badge for good measure Runners up get prizes too by the way.dsco@secretleeds.com

Incidentally if this has prompted anyone to think "I should have entered that" its not too late to get involved. I think the more the merrier when it comes to banner images really, so if you have some nice pics that you think represent SecretLeeds and would fit into 960 x 200 pixels (w x h) then please send them to dsco@secretleeds.com.Cheers

dscoCan you work from the original big/full pic to 'extract' the banner you want.Thing is once I've taken the picture it all gets a bit techie and so I don't think I could crop to the required depth.Perhaps you and or that philld bloke could pm me with wisdom?Ooh if I could only win a make up mirror.... I'd be..errm, made up!

I'd be..errm, made up! Aye up Jogon.I'd not bother too much about the exact size for a banner photo. The main thing as I've tried to explain above is finding an interesting narrow photo within a big photo. For example it would be no good to try reduce this photo to fit into a banner, it would all be squashed up, distorted and too small to see.Instead your best to look for the most interesting narrow 'banner size' part of the photo to use, that way it's easy to see and you keep all the detail. Lots of photos might look great full size, but when you crop them into a narrow photo they look rubbish. This photo looks good full size. But cropped it doesn't work at all.You could send Duncan the full size photo, or alternatively try this photo editing programme to crop photos http://picasa.google.co.uk/(leave the photos bigger than banner size) Duncan sorts out the part that works best. Or you can crop photos on flickr, simply upload the photo you want to use. Click 'actions' above the photo, then click 'Edit photo in Aviary' It sounds complicated, but really it isn't.

Thanks phillSo do we size it to 960 x 200 pixels (w x h) or just 'More Than' so dsco can skim&trim.

And yes Jogon, Duncan can 'skim & trim' Just think of your photo like wallpaper hanging, you always cut the paper with a few inches spare top and bottom, and then trim it with straight edge and *sharp* knife when it's on the wall. I think the main thing is just to submit a photo that has an interesting narrow 960x200 narrow photo within it. Regarding your e-mail about Picasa Jogon, I'll use the Flickr photo editing programme to explain it, both work in similar fashions. First upload the photo you want to use on to Picasa, or flickr. If you use flickr, you can set the photo private if you don't want anyone else to see it. Just click 'only you see this photo' when you upload it.When your photo is uploaded to flickr, just click on the 'actions' above the photo, then click 'Edit photo in Aviary' that I've highlighted in red.And this happens next, just click on the 'crop' option highlighted in red.Move the 'crop box' to the desired size you want and click 'Apply' On most photo editing programmes you get a 'manual' or in this case 'custom' size crop option that allow you to crop any size you want. You will also notice they do standard sizes, and different ratios. I just use manual or custom in this case and guess the desired size. Remember it's best to make a bigger photo than a banner size. It can always be made smaller to fit, you can never make it bigger to fit. Then when you have finished just click 'Save changes'You also get the option to replace your existing photo with the new cropped version, or to make a new copy and keep the full size version. The option to have your photo visible, or not visible to the public is there also. All photo editing programmes work in a similar fashion, the 'Aviary' one on flickr saves the finished photo online to your photo collection. The others like Picasa save the finished photo to your hard drive. Hope that helps

Skim & trim makes me as it sounds like a dieting method.

The only problem with Aviary on flicker is that (for me) it fails to load most of the time.....
