I took this photo on December 5 2012 of an old looking 'Keep to the right' sign on a stairway at the Leeds Central Reference Library. I had never noticed it (and another higher up the stairway) before despite that I must have walked by them many times. I wonder how long they have been there? I would guess a long time. It seems odd (well it does to me!) that they do not state 'Keep to the left' as that would seem to me to be the more natural instruction, as we for example drive on the left. There is a well-known old looking 'C.I.D.' sign on a wall near the other stairway, so possibly the 'Keep to the right' may be police related (or not). I shall post a photo next that shows the location of the 'Keep to the right' sign.

I bet you have a good collection of photos saved up since our site was offline for those 3 long weeks Leo?
My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!

It never ceases to surprise me just what new things I see when I'm around in the centre of Leeds. For example every time I pass Leeds City Markets I seem to spot some feature that I don't recall seeing before. PS. Talking of Leeds City Markets that seems to be its correct name though I think most of us would say Leeds Market, such as 'I'm going to the Market' so singular not plural and certainly without the City bit.

Whilst not strictly being on the thread, the keep-right sign brought back to me a recollection of when I first started work at the tender age of fifteen. Ascending a staircase in the office, I had the audacity to pass what I considered to be an old lady coming down. As I got level with her, there was plenty of room for both of us to pass without having to make room on either of our parts, I heard her say, "Young man are you in the habit of passing ladies on staircases?" To be truthful it wasn't a subject that I had ever given much thought to. She then went on to give me a right dressing-down on the passing of ladies on stairs business and how impolite it was. I learned later she was the Editor's secretary and carried about the same weight as him around the office. It's funny but it's a lesson I've never forgotten and even now stop on the stairs for a lady to pass and if one is coming down I will not begin to ascend 'til she reaches the bottom.
Daft I call it - What's for tea Ma?
