Ive lived in Spain for a lot of years although I came back to live in the uk last year. As a child in the 80s we used to go to Roundhay park on Nov 5th. I remember at the time there being a big fair as well as its trademark massive bonfire and the firework display was lengthy (usually 25mins or so) with fitting classical music. Basically it was a night where people stayed for 2-3hrs,if I remember rightly it was situated down near the lake area. Now in my 30s I was anxious to go back which we did this this year and I seemed to be really disappointed. I know its far more exciting as a child but it all seemed a bit thrown together. The big fair has been replaced by a tiny infants corner, and the firework display didnt seem a patch on what it was length or qualitywise and was accompioned by random music by GalaxyFm. The bonfire was good but seemed pointless in a way as it was lit at 7.30 and after the fireworks finished at 8.20 everyone scarpered to their car. The whole night experience of fair and bonfire from the 80s had gone!!.Anyone else remember Roundhay park display from that era that compare it to todays standard.?!

The feast is on Woodhouse Moor. When did LCC start doing displays across the city? I never went to Roundhay and, don't remember them on Woodhouse moor before the early 90s.

Well here's where the fire is these days.According to this websitehttp://www.roundhaypark.org.uk/roundhay-park-bonfire.htmlYou ask the driver of the 2 & 12 bus to let you know when it's the stop for Roundhay Park if your not sure. That is of course depending on the First bus driver.1. Letting you on at the bus stop instead of giving you a dirty look, whilst keeping the doors closed and driving off. 2. Actually listen to what you are saying and comprehend the information.3. He is willing to alert you once at the destination, instead of ignore your request totally, or grunt at you like a wild pig!

I see the fire has moved onto Soldiers Field now. I think I can vaguely remember a firework display over the lake, but for me the bonfire was always just above the cricket pitch / velodrome (and seats as was), with the actual firework display in or launched from the arena itself.I can clearly remember one year (80's) when the bonfire was lit by one bloke, with a petrol can, whilst he was having a fag.The feast (and it was a full on funfair with loads of rides / stalls), was astride the path from the Mansion down to the car park by the lake. Official parking was on Soldiers Field but we always used to park on Wetherby Road and walk through alongside the lake, usually in pitch darkness as did dozens of others - some years the parked cars would reach up to the junction with Easterly Road. And everyone used to buy those glow stick loops.

I think one of the mail reasons that there is no fun fair is due to louts throwing fireworks into the crowd. It happened a few times when the bonfire was in the arena. I wonder if they moved it to the Soldiers Field because of better access for emergency services and it is less confined. There were loads of people there this year and the fireworks lasted for 20-30 mins. Trouble is it gets really samey each year so it does get a bit boring.Music was bad this year and just having JoJo from Galaxy was OK but sparse! It was a bit of an amateur job I'll agree!

Seems a spurious reason for no fun fair - there was one at the East End Park bonfire this year, so why should Roundhay Park be different..?Seems like idiots throwing fireworks is a national problem... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-20217512

There's a load of fireworks going off now, and have been for the last 25 mins at Chapel Allerton. Big stuff, loud bangs, and probably the most impressive this year. Not sure what's going on though. Somewhere in this areahttp://goo.gl/maps/47qNl
