SecretLeeds - History, culture and architecture in Leeds

I took this photo on October 26 2012. There are 22 carved heads in view on this building (one over each window arch). I suspect the heads are not that readily spotted on this building next to the Adelphi Hotel on Hunslet Road. Other buildings in Leeds have carved heads on them but I wonder if any has so many as this one in such a short length? Does anyone know any history of the building? The carvings certainly add character to it.

Ta LeoWill have a skeg when next in town, not noticed.When I first viewed your image, I immediately (& wrongly) recognised it as the building on Harper St (down Kirkgate) next to the Duck & Drake. Which also has a space to right + modern infill behind. http://goo.gl/maps/N1WoXI don't often get south of the river, but if I have the car I have discovered "2 hours free" there. A folding bike in the boot would be handy... [EDIT]Somewhere in Leodis, Mill Hill I think, the building to the left where Bibis started out had amazing dog/gargoyles which stood out above street level.Think they've gone and cann't find the image now

Hi Jogon. A carving of a dog on a building does seem that I know/knew it, but I cannot recall where.

Found it13th May 1930. Looking towards Boar Lane. on left sign 'Creamery cafe', nos. 1-3, property of Hindells Dairy Farmers Ltd also, Craven dairies. Black Lion public house at road junction. On the right, James Mosley's furniture shop. Hanging sign reads 'James Mosley 1929 Limited. Cash or Credit, complete furnishers'. From roofline, six projecting carved figures. 'Manchester' van, registration VAT 832 parked in road.

Definitely well before my time, honest! I think I must have seen the photo before. I think it could be Mill Hill, but I'm very unsure.

The carvings are a bit intimidating. I see a vehicle was travelling so fast it is a blur but the (?) person on the right must have also been taking some time to move away! Photos needed time to take in those days unlike the simple point and shoot now.PS. Craven Dairies I believe were part of the start of Associated Dairies that became ASDA.

I think it may be a long exposure shot. I cant imagine those vehicles in those days zooming along.
