I have deleted all the 'spam' threads that were started overnight and I have emailed Duncan to delete the person/spam bot. I also mentioned to him that we might now need some sort of approval thingy for new members to prove they are human etc. Any thought on this folks?

We've actually been talking about spambots on another forum. The infamous NhocCuteGirlUK to be precise.
http://tinyurl.com/8wxv4jnSpambots can over ride such things as registration and catchpha. There is no way to stop them. They just can't post anymore once banned. It doesn't stop them logging in daily though :-)Something does need to be put in place to stop the human spammers I do agree Si!

An astronomy buy and sell site I use asks those who wish to respond to ads to identify pics of constellations to help ensure that their bona fides. Perhaps something on the same lines using a view of a well known Leeds landmark would be useful and appropriate?

This sort of thing is what I do for a living and the ingenuity that some of the bots use is incredible. A photo of a Leeds landmark is a great idea as most captchas can be defeated these days.

simong's idea is a good one, some simple question about Leeds to screen the spambots out.I mean I've turned down millions this week, must be a bad week for those African bank managers and the families of deposed despots. I've directed them in the past to come to Leeds and go visit the big brick building next to the Bus Station.
