Light hearted question really,as I was just sat in the kitchen/dining room eating a late tea/early supper and watching the world go by out the back window.I've lived or stayed in many parts of this fair city over the years and often wonder what motivates people to choose where they live.We will all have our favourite places for many reasons but it would be really interesting to find out other people's reasons for living where they do(assuming out of choice I guess).....I looked out of the window just a bit earlier and me and her who shall be obeyed both said we were quite settled. All this despite poor bus access,no local shops, doctors or just about anything that some people take for granted. It's quietish round here(apart from speeding and noisy cars sometimes).I used to love the hustle/bustle of the inner city Leeds, but not now.Still love to venture into town and visit my favourite haunts but don't miss much of what I see.Still,i'm older now and it's all about the youth....it always was I suppose.Just wish I had all the good old drinking establishments and the associated crowd nearby too.I like my open spaces nowadays and the neighbours are friendly enough.Guess that's a big plus ? After all,we've all got to get on.Yes,I suppose that continuity of good neighbours and surroundings helps massively.....especially as there are no ankle snappers around anymore.Wish we had a better bus service though(book.....what u think ? you live close by)....I'd love to hear other SL input from you all.

When I have lived in Leeds it's always been North Leeds. I like the North side of the City, probably because I was brought up there and lived as teenager in Burley and Headingley. The main reason for living in South Leeds now is for family reasons but it's far better to get anywhere from where I live in Thorpe than it was in North Leeds. Living here saves me a lot of time in travelling. I use a car and the train so buses are not an issue for me. The property prices are better here in South Leeds and it's better living here than I would ever of imagined. when I was younger I would not have lived in South Leeds, it did not appeal to me at all. I lived in Spain for 3 years and moved back to England for family reasons and the summers were unbearable in Spain. The only place I fancy moving to is the Dales, probably a caravan in Pateley Bridge.
Is it me or has Leeds gone mad

Cheers book, thanks for your input.I've mostly been a southerner(aire) myself but had spells at Headingley and Roundhay and thoroughly enjoyed them....all pre current situation you understand. We have no intention of moving currently but also having lived over 3 years within an old mining community in nearby(s/w.yorks border),we would not rule that out either should something suitable become available.Top of a hill, great views, nice pub close by,good transport links.....not asking for much eh? The rolling hills and picturesque valleys of our beautiful county are to be appreciated.Perhaps we sometimes want too much ?

I was born in Armley and lived in Armley for half of my life. Only moving out of there when 16 to Stanningley but coming back to Armley at 18. I have lived in Nottingham for nearly 30 years.I still miss Leeds and come back often to see family and friends. If I could move back I dont think I could live again in Armley as I feel its deteriorated in certain places and would have to find a better part of Leeds to live in. I do miss Leeds and being amongst Yorkshire folk but feel as I have moved up from my roots in the pecking order and want something better than what my parents stayed around for. Sorry my loving Ancestors who lived in Armley for hundreds of years. Things change I am afraid.

p.s. not been on for a while due to holidays and dreading what was being said about JS What happened to Chameleon.? Someone said they are sorry he/she was not here. So just wondered if I had missed anything.? \Hope not as they got me back onto Leeds having been unable for about 14 months not to get on for some reason.

I'm with you Book, would like to move out further than we are already.I live in north Leeds in Rawdon, moved here when we were married and love the place. Neighbours are great and the local school is great for the little one. There are some great places over Wakey way and into S Yorks and the countryside is great too. Given the choice and having the money, i would go to the top of the dales or a village on the coast.

I was really lucky as a kid, living with family in my grandmothers large boarding house in Hanover Square. Lodgers, mainly airforce guys, were entertaining and the main dining table at evening meal time was like a cabaret, listening to the banter and jokes, all clean. Outside was and still is the park, trees to climb, games to play and George the gardener, with spittle dripping from the end of his pipe, When he told us his yarns, great guy, great days. Stanningley now, good side, - good neighbours and everything to hand, drinking, eating, shopping and country side 10 mins away. LBA 15 mins.
