The following is from John Mayhall’s 'Annals of Yorkshire' volume 1 published in 1861:-October 13 1801. “October 13th, died Samuel Predam, of Leeds, aged 28, late lieutenant of his majesty’s 54th regiment of foot, who was shot through the body on the 25th of August, near the gates of Alexandria, in Egypt, where he displayed the active zeal, the intrepid gallantry, and the invincible spirit and courage of a true British soldier. A monument in the Leeds parish church has an inscription as follows…” (the item then gave the full long inscription).
