The following is from John Mayhall’s ‘Annals of Yorkshire’:-October 6 1827. “October 6th, the Leeds central market was opened, with great spirit and animation, a band of music enlivened the crowded scene.”Note that this is not the present Leeds City Market but the Central Market that was on Duncan Street. As far as I'm aware none of the Central Market building now survives. There was a fire in 1893 though the structure survived but it was demolished when Vicar Lane was widened (the market bordered Duncan Street and New Market Street).This SL thread relating to Central Market may be of interest, particularly the Leeds Mercury news report of the fire that was posted by liits.
