The following is most of a report on John Mayhall's 'Annals of Yorkshire' volume 3.July 29 1872. "A singular atmospherical phenomenon was witnessed between one and two o'clock this afternoon in Leeds. The sky in the early part of the morning was bright and clear, but soon after mid-day distant sounds of thunder were heard. In the central part of the town little or no rain fell between one and two o'clock; in Boar Lane, Briggate, and the immediate neighbourhood the pavement remained perfectly dry, but in North Street, Camp Road, Meanwood Road, and the neighbourhood of Sheepscar, a perfect hurricane of wind, accompanied by a tremendous shower of hail and rain, prevailed for a short time. Large pieces of ice were picked up. Whilst Boar Lane and Briggate presented every appearance of a long-contained drought, in some parts of North Street the occupants of cellars could be seen emptying their dwellings of the overflow of surface water."

I was once walking down armley town street in the persistent rain and noticed the other side of the road was perfectly dry. Weird stuff weather.

CardieMatthew 5:45 "..That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.."I'd allus thought this meant he made it rain on nerdowells. My farmer mate disagrees.Just saying..
