The following are reported in John Mayhall’s ‘Annals of Yorkshire’ vol 3:-July 24 1867. “Private Eddison, of the Leeds Rifles, having won the Challenge Cup of the “Leeds Rifles Enfield Club” for the third time, the cup became his own property, with the honour of another bar added to the gold badge previously worn by him”.I wonder if the cup is still in existence and if so where is it and/or who has it?July 24 1867. “About this time a strange story found its way into the newspapers, copied from the Philadelphia Telegraph of the 14th June, entitled “The town of Leeds, Yorkshire, England, claimed by American heirs,” &c.”.I have not been able to readily find anything about that. I wonder what happened? Perhaps some Americans are still claiming Leeds is theirs! Perhaps it is! After all, Philadelphia has Adel in its name!

That's excellent chemimike. Thanks for that. My searching technique is clearly not very good but I did try, though not in much depth.

LeodianNothing to do with your searching technique. The result came from the Gale 19th century newspaper website, and you probably would not have found it if you did nor have access to it
