I have ties with Water Lane as one of my relatives owned a Scrapyard on there until the 1970's called 'Ron Jarrett Ltd., Scrap Metal Merchants'. Don't know much about it really or how long they were trading from there. I have only been able to find these pictures on Leodis. Does anyone remember it or have any photos at all??http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... 899_167213

You say "these pictures" but in the off chance that you have not seen it this is a link to an appropriate image in Leodis, which also has a comment:- http://tinyurl.com/7zrrdar

Scrapyard apart,I remember when I worked around Water Lane early eighties(working for a steel outfit),there were quite a few garage/workshops tucked under the rail arches and in nearby mill yards and old warehouses.Quite a few pokey hideaways around there then.I suspect a few of these were a bit dubious(chop shops) as the frequent police presence around there was quite noticeable. There was a permanent caravan presence behind Kay's on spare land too where I'd sometimes park up to eat my sandwiches etc and watch the world go by.They were old time lads though,ok for the craich and could tell you some interesting stories.Happy memories of a time gone by now.
